Annual Plants – a Valuable Raw Material

In contrast to wood, annual plants represent a source of very rapidly renewable raw materials. They offer a wide spectrum of applications when processed with the right kind of size reduction machines and installations. Siempelkamp SRS manufactures size reduction machines for the preparation of natural fibers as reinforcement for composite materials or as a basis for cellulose production. Annual plants are also suitable as alternative raw materials for the production of wood-based panels. Cotton stems or bamboo are pre-cut with a drum chipper for this purpose.

Subsequent chip production is carried out with impact chippers or knife ring flakers. This results in a high-quality raw material for the production of particleboards. Siempelkamp SRS has developed a well-known pressure refiner for the production of fibers for MDF boards. Further applications include the size reduction and preparation of bagasse. Removal of pith using depithers is at the forefront here. Specially designed size reduction machines are required for the shredding of cork, due to the required low percentage of fines.

Drum chipper PHT

Annual plants such as cotton stems or bamboo can be pre-cut using the PHT drum chipper. The drum chipper is characterized by high throughput, robust design and low operating costs.

Depither PMS

The depither, PMS series, is used to de-pith sugar cane bagasse. The bagasse fibers, separated from the pith, are used for the production of cellulose, fiberboards or particleboards.

Impact hammer mill PHPS

The hammer mill, PHMS series, is used for the economic processing of pre-cut annual plants, such as bamboo and cotton stems, into chips for the production of particleboards.

Double stream mill PSKM

High-quality fine chips are produced for the surface layer of particleboards by the PSKM double stream mill. Using pre-cut annual plants, the double stream mill produces fibrous raw materials for the manufacture of boards.
